Treaty Three Police and Grassy come to a peaceful resolution
Enterprise Staff
Treaty Three police are claiming a peaceful resolution to a two-day road block in Grassy Narrows May 18-19.
The blockade, which denied general patrols entry into the community, was set up Tuesday afternoon by community members, including a pair of band councillors, in response to the force's slow reaction time to crime on the reserve.
Blockader Chrissy Swain claimed the service lags in responding to calls, has intimidated when it is on scene and boiled the entire issue down to community safety.
The police force said in a release Friday, entry for emergency calls was granted and, overall, the blockade caused minimal disruptions to services.
The release went on to say police were "advised of various community concerns" and "made a commitment over the next several weeks to look into the matters of concern."
When contacted, Deputy Chief Louis Napish said he couldn't elaborate except to say more discussions are expected to follow.
"We are dealing with a number of other pending issues, right now ... and I'm not privileged to let you know when that's going to happen," he said. "That would likely be in consultation with the council and community members who have requested the meet."
